Merry Christmas☆彡

Today I enjoyed decorating this Santa cake with my oldest daughter. It was such a quick and fun project... a very yummy one, too!

Fabric Stuffed Christmas Tree Tutorial ☆彡布のミニクリスマスツリー作り方

Christmas is just around the corner and we still haven't set up our tree yet...

In fact when we moved from California to Japan this spring, we got rid of our tree because we knew that we have no space to set up a big tree in our tiny apartment in Tokyo. So we actually don't have a tree to set it up... (sobs)

So what to do? I decided to make a quick holiday tree using what we have in abundance in our house... Money? No! Unfortunately! Fabrics? Yes, of course! lol

So here's the tutorial if you decide to make a last minute mini Christmas tree for your family and friends. I know it's the craziest time of the year for everyone, so I promise I make it quick and simple!

今年もクリスマスまであと１週間。皆さんはもうクリスマスツリーは飾られたことと思います。我が家では今年の春にアメリカから日本に引越しをした際にこれまで使っていた大きなツリーを処分してしまったのでうちには今年は飾るツリーがないんです（くすん）。

そこで今回は我が家にたくさんあるもの（←お金！ではなく、布です～。笑）を使って手作りのツリーを作ってみることにしました❣　作り方は簡単ですのでご自宅にツリーのある方もない方もぜひ作ってみて下さいね。

What you will need:（材料）

Fabrics, poly fill, and 20" ribbon trim

Craft glue is optional.

布、手芸綿、50 cm長さのリボン、工芸用ボンド（リボンのほつれどめに）

How to make stuffed fabric Christmas tree （作り方）

(Finished size: approx 7.5" or 19 cm tall　でき上がりは高さ約19 cm)

1. First download tree template here.

まずはこの型紙を印刷します→★

2. Then cut out total of six pieces of tree patterns from your choice of fabrics - you may cut out trees from six different fabrics, or make it simple by using just one fabric. I used three different fabrics and cut out two tree patterns from each fabric (total of six tree patterns).

型紙をもとにお手持ちの生地から6枚のツリー型を切ります（型紙は縫い代込みです）。すべて同じ生地から6枚カットしても良いですし、または6種類すべて違う生地を使っても楽しいですね。私は3種類の生地からそれぞれ2枚のツリーを切りました（計6枚）。

Note: Only five tree patterns are shown above, but you should have six tree patterns in total

↑上の写真では5枚しかないですが実際には6枚カットしてくださいね。

3. With RST (right sides together), layer two prints together to make three sets of tree patterns.

それぞれ2枚の生地を中表に合わせて3セットにまとめます。

4. Using 1/4" seam allowances, sew around the entire tree, leaving openings at the bottom. Make small cuts at "V" area as shown.

0.7cmの縫い代でまわりをぐるりと縫います。このとき、2ケ所縫わずに開けておきます。Ｖの部分に小さな切り込みを入れます。

5. Turn the tree right side out and push out corners. I like to use chopstick for this step (because we also have lots of chopsticks in our house!) but you may use a crochet hook, knitting needle, or any pointed object. Repeat for all three trees.

ツリーを表に返して角を出します。このとき、お箸、かぎ針、編み棒などを使うと便利ですね。３つのツリーすべて同様に行います。

6. Layer three trees on top of each other. Sew straight line at center, from top to bottom, through all layers of fabrics.

3枚のツリーを重ねて中心を真っすぐに縫います。

7. Begin stuffing tree with poly fill from openings at bottom. Be sure to stuff all points. After filling, close openings shut using small hand stitches.

ツリー下部の開き口から手芸綿を詰めます。角までしっかり綿を詰めるようにします。最後に開き口を縫い閉じます。

I used poly fill from local 100 yen store (dollar store). I ended up using one entire bag of poly fill (80 g or 3 oz) for this project.

私は近所の100円ショップの手芸綿をつかいました。今回はまるごと一袋使いきりました。

This is how it looks like after the poly fill is packed inside.

手芸綿を詰め終わったら底部分はこんな感じになります。

8. Make a bow using ribbon trim and attach it to the top of the tree using hand stitches.

リボンを結んでツリーのトップ部分に縫い付けます。

9. Optional step: Dab a small amount of craft glue to both ends of trims to avoid frills. Let dry.

ほつれ止めに工芸用ボンドを少量つけて乾かします。

Now that the tree is done (sort of), I better start working on new year cards (we send each other new year cards in Japan instead of holiday cards)! Wishing you and your family the happiest time of the year from chilly and windy Tokyo☆彡

なんとかツリーが完成したのでお次は年賀状にとりかからねばです。海外生活が長かった我が家ではクリスマスカードに慣れてしまい、年賀状を書くのは約30年ぶりなのでいちいち緊張します（苦笑）。

Celebrating Halloween with patchwork fabric pumpkin❣ ハッピーハロウイーン♪ パッチワークの布かぼちゃ作りました

Happy Halloween!

今日は子供たちが待ちに待ったハロウイーン。。。

I don't carve jack-o-lanterns... but I stitched up a patchwork pumpkin last night!

アメリカではかぼちゃを彫ってジャック・オ・ランタン(かぼちゃランタン)を作るのが一般的ですが・・・我が家ではパッチワークでちくちく手作りしてみました❣

Have a safe and enjoyable Halloween! I will be busy chasing our girls and their friends around our neighborhood going trick or treating tonight!

Happy Easter! from my handmade linen bunnies ♪　リネンのウサギさんから、ハッピーイースター♪

Just dropping by to wish you all have a Happy Easter Sunday...

こちらでは今週末はイースター（復活祭）です。イースターには、イースターエッグ（卵）と、バニーでお祝いするのが慣わしです。

こちらはイースターにちなんで、以前作ったリネンのウサギさんたち♪

Our neighbor brought over these yummy bunny chocolates for our girls today. But before we knew it, our youngest girl ate her bunny in a blink of an eye! I have no idea where she got her "chocoholic-ness" from! lol

今日はご近所の方が我が家の娘達にイースターバニーを型どったチョコレートを持ってきてくださいました。折角いただいたチョコレート、この写真撮影後には次女はもう頭からかぶりついてチョコを平らげていました。一体、次女は誰に似てそんなにチョコ好きになったのでしょうか…。←大いに心当たりありの母です。（苦笑）

Happy Valentine's Day Hoop ♪バレンタイン飾りを『刺しゅう枠』で♪

Happy Valentine's Day to my crafty friends!

ハッピーバレンタインデー♪

I had been using this simple crocheted heart as a coaster for a while, but I decided to frame it as Valentine's day wall decoration.

こちらのかぎ針編みで編んだハート。コースターとして使っていましたが急に思いついてバレンタイン用の飾りに仕立てることにしました。私のやることはいつも全て思いつきです～。＞＜；

The hoop size is 7 inches (18 cm) wide.

刺しゅう枠は18センチ大のものを利用しました。

First I stitched the crocheted heart directly onto the fabric. Of course, I had to stitch in my car while I waited for our girls' after school activities. "Car stitching" is really a productive moment for me! lol

まずはハートを直接生地に縫い付けました。例によってこの作業は娘達の塾や学校お迎えの待ち時間中を利用して駐車場の車内で行いました。車内のちくちくタイムははかどります～（笑）。

Then I embroidered the word "love" using the chain stitches...

その後バランスを見ながらチェーンステッチで"love"の文字を刺しゅう。

Then I cut out a hard paper (I recycled USPS Priority mail envelope) into a shape of the inner hoop...

刺しゅう枠の裏側ですが、こんなふうに厚紙（家にあった厚手の封筒を再利用）を切り抜いてはめ込んでみました。

And covered the back side of the hoop like this. As for now, the recycled hard paper works just fine to hold the back fabric, and I didn't have to use glue to keep them in place. But I'll see how it goes.

今のところは糊などで固定しなくても問題ないようですが、しばらく様子をみることにします。

After I attached a small ribbon bow to the front top, a quick Valentine day decoration wall hanging is now complete!

Valentine Bird Wreath ♪ バレンタインに小鳥のリース ♪

Hello my friends!

Valentine's Day is approaching and here's what I whipped up to celebrate the day of love... a Valentine bird wreath!

皆さんこんにちは♪　数日後に迫ったバレンタインデーのために、ハートいっぱいの小鳥のリースを作ってみました。

This little love bird is made of linen piece, wood beads, and a tiny scrap of feedsack wings...

リース中央の小鳥は、リネンとウッドビーズ、そしてフィードサック布（羽部分）で作ってみましたよ。

Base of this Valentine wreath is an inexpensive straw wreath from our local Joann store. I simply wrapped the entire wreath with hand cut linen strips.

リースの土台に使っているのは市販の藁のリース土台です。近所の手芸量販店 Joannにて購入しました。全体を細長くカットしたリネンで巻きつけています。

Actually, instead of making this Valentine's day wreath from scratch, I repurposed the linen wreath that I made a couple years back...

といっても、今回使用したリースは新しく用意したものではなく、数年前に作ったこちらのリネンのリース（写真上）を使いまわしてみました。

Then I randomly wrapped the red/white checkered trim around the wreath.

赤ｘ白のチェックのリボンがあったので全体をぐるぐると巻いて・・・。

The trim ends are secured to the straw wreath with a couple of ordinary sewing pins (as shown above).

リボンの終わり部分は待ち針で留めてあります。上の写真でわかるかな。

Then I decided to decorate the entire linen wreath with these heart shaped buttons that have been sitting around in my sewing drawer for quite some time. So glad I was able to make good use of these cute hearts (finally)!

赤いハートのプラスチック製のボタンがたくさんあったので、今回はこのボタンもリース全体に飾り付けてみました。リボンと同様に、ハートのボタンも待ち針で留めています。このハート型ボタン、随分長い間引き出しの中で眠っていたのでようやく使う機会が出来てよかったです^^；

Just like the red/white checkered trim, I secured the heart buttons to the wreath surface using red and white sewing pins. (Note: These pins hold the buttons and trims securely to the wreath, but I don't recommend using them if you have small children in your family. Just a quick note from a mommy crafter!)

ご覧の通り、私は今回リースの飾り留めに待ち針をたくさん使いましたが、小さなお子さんのいらっしゃる方は待ち針は使わないほうが良いかもしれませんね^^。
