Patchwork Log Cabin Dome Pouch ☆ パッチワークログキャビンで五つ星バッグ ☆

In Japan, we are in the midst of "Golden Week" or one of the longest holiday period for workers and students.  Trains, airports, amusement parks, shopping malls, and everywhere else gets very crowded during this period in Japan.

日本の皆さまにとってはゴールデンウイークですね。　アメリカで長年暮らしていた頃にはゴールデンウイークとは無縁だったので、日本のこの連休にはまだまだ馴染みが薄い私です。

While many people travel during this period, I've been staying home, doing what I enjoy the most... sewing! Yay! Well I'm still cooking, cleaning, washing, and doing all sorts of daily chores for my family, but still it's nice to have more time to myself.

日本国内の方々は旅行をされている方も多いかもしれませんね。私はというと、家にこもって料理、洗濯、掃除・・・という普段通りの家事をテキトーにやっつけながら（笑）この休暇中はミシンに向かう時間を楽しんでいます♪

Using this scrappy log cabin block that I pieced a while ago...

以前ハギレを組み合わせて作ったログキャビンのパッチワーク。

I made this dome pouch/bag.

今回はそのパッチワークを使ってバッグに仕立てました。

To make this pouch/bag, I followed my original pattern: Stella Dome Pouch. But this time I replaced the friendship stars with scrappy log cabins.

自作のパターン（五つ星バッグ）をベースにバッグを作りました。五つ星パッチワークの代わりに、明るく元気なログキャビンで。

裏側です。コッカさんの少し前の「いろめ」シリーズのこの花柄生地、大好きです。

 I like to listen to the radio while I sew. And I often lose track of time when I'm sewing! 

一人でラジオなど聞きながら夢中になって手芸していると時間を忘れます。あっ！もうこんな時間！という感じ＾＾；

I made a pot full of fresh salsa today. Tomorrow my youngest brother's family is coming over and guess what we'll have for lunch together? Tacos, of course!

明日は一番下の弟一家が我が家に遊びに来る予定です。ランチにはみんなでタコスをいただくので今日は大量のトマトやパクチーなどを使ってサルサソースをたくさん作りました。

Scrappy Star Bento Bag for My Friend ☆ ミシンパッチワークでキラキラ星のお弁当バッグ作り ☆

You may recall those quilt-as-you-go scrappy star panels I was stitching earlier this month. Well, I made those panels into a bento bag (lunch tote) for a very good friend of mine who is currently recovering from health issues.  

先日ミシンキルティングしたパッチワークの表布2枚を使ってお弁当バッグ作りました。　現在体調を崩している友人に早く元気になってもらいたい❣との願いをこめて作ったプレゼントです。

As you can see, I chose cheerful and bright colors (mainly using Kokka's Irome collection) to lift her spirits up!

友人が一日も早く元気になってくれるようにと願いつつ明るい色の組合せを選んでみましたが派手すぎたかな～＾＾；

 I first machine-quilted these scrappy star panels then turned them into a bento bag (lunch tote).

表布はコッカさんの Irome （いろめ）シリーズの生地をメインに使ってミシンピーシング＆ミシンキルティングしました。

The scrappy star block is from my original Scrappy Star Square Bag pattern, now available at my etsy shop.

今回使った星のパターンは、私のオリジナル作品　Scrappy Star Square Bag（キラキラ星のキルトバッグ）から。バッグのパターンはオンラインショップで発売中です（パターンは英語です）。

今回作ったお弁当バッグの作り方は私の著書に掲載されています。

This lunch tote is a good size to store lunch, fruits, snacks, and a small drink inside to go out on a picnic on a beautiful day!

お弁当やお菓子、果物、飲み物などをぎっしり詰めて、暖かい日にはピクニックに出かけてもらえたら嬉しいな～。

 

Besides the bag handles, I added detachable long straps to the bento bag so that it can be worn cross-body like this.

The bag was shipped out to my girlfriend with some candies and other goodies inside. I can't wish enough that my girlfriend recovers fully and quickly!! 

お弁当バッグには取り外し可能なバッグストラップを付けたのでこんなふうにななめ掛けバッグとしても使ってもらえるようにしました。一日も早く大切な友人が元気になることを願ってやみません☆

Look! My scrappy star bento bag flew in to Grand Canyon, AZ, with the new owner all the way from Southern Cal, originally made by me in Tokyo!! So happy my friend is actually using my handmade bag and more than anything that she is recovering well! Yay♡

Hello everyone from Tokyo☆

This week I finished filing our taxes (yes it's that time of the year again) and guess what I did as soon as I finished them! I ran to my sewing machine and frantically began sewing like a maniac as always! lol 

今週は手間取っていた税金関係の仕事を片付けたので気分も軽くやっとゆっくりミシンで作業できました～

You see, sewing has been my best stress reliever (besides drinking...) and I know that it will always be!! 

やはり無心でミシンに向かってダダダ－－－っとソーイングする時間が私にとっては何よりのストレス解消法です。（ミシン以外では飲酒もストレス解消法ですが。ハハハ）

 I stitched up two panels of  quilt-as-you-go scrappy star panels mainly using Kokka's beautiful Irome fabric collection. 

今回は大好きなコッカさんの Irome （いろめ）シリーズの生地をメインに使ってミシンで気ままにストリップピーシング＆ミシンキルティングしてみました。

The scrappy star used in these panels are made following my Scrappy Star Square bag pattern.

今回使った星のパターンは、私のオリジナル作品　Scrappy Star Square Bag （キラキラ星のキルトバッグ）から。

These panels measure 14" x 11" (35cm x 27.5 cm).  I can't wait to show you what these panels will turn into... soon!

それぞれ 35 cm x 27.5 cm 大のパネルが2枚仕上がりました。これで何ができるのかはお楽しみです♪

Pocket tissue covers and more ♥ ポケットティッシュケース作りました ♥

In most big cities of Japan, outside of major train stations or on crowded streets, you will see people handing out pocket tissues to passers-by. It's nice to receive these promotional items because they're totally free, although they come with advertising inserts inside.

街頭などで無料でティッシュを配っているのをみかけると私は必ずもらうようにしています！オバサンだから・・・ということもあるのでしょうが（苦笑）、海外生活の長かった私からすると無料のティッシュってとても有難く感じるんですよね～。少なくともアメリカではなかったので・・・。

free pocket tissues 

It's been less than a year since our family moved to Tokyo from U.S., yet we already have a good supply of these free pocket tissues in our household (a lot more than I can show you here!)

そんなわけで帰国してからまだ1年経っていませんがすでに我が家では無料のポケットティッシュの在庫はどんどん増えています。

So I made these simple pocket tissue covers using pieces of fabrics from my scrap bin. I made four of these, one for every family member, but our girls doesn't seem to like any of the fabrics I used... Well, no surprises as I am used to their pickiness when it comes to fabrics!! (And guess who they got it from?! lol) 

そのままで使うと味気ないのでハギレでポケットティッシュケース作ってみました❣　家族4人にひとつずつ、のつもりでしたが我が家の娘たちは私が選んだ生地はすべてお気に召さないようです。可愛いのに～（とほほ）。ま、そうくるとは思っていたので想定内でしたが・・・（一体誰に似たのか⁈　娘たちは生地選びにはうるさいのです）。

Speaking of fabric pickiness, a while ago I stitched up this tote for my sis using one of my fave fabrics (Echino bird from Kokka). 

生地選びといえば、しばらく前にお気に入りのコッカ社のエチノ・シリーズの生地を使って妹にトートバッグ作りました。

This was a "practice project" while I was drafting my original tote pattern, or Tokyo Carryall Tote.  All patterns, including this tote pattern, is currently on 50% off sale in my etsy shop.

話はかわって先日のバレンタインデーには我が家の娘たちも「友チョコ」作りに大忙しでした～♥

It's a recent tradition in Japan for young girls to exchange homemade "friendship chocolates" or Tomo-choco (友チョコ）with their friends at school. It's just like exchanging Halloween candies in the U.S., except without spooky costumes or trick-or-treating!  Yum!

友チョコって、私が中高生のころの日本にはなかった慣習です。約30年ぶりに日本に帰国すると逆カルチャーショックなことがおおいですね・・・❣（笑）

Zakka Pattern Overview: Pyramid Zipper Pouch and Sachet ☆ オリジナル雑貨パターンより 「三角ポーチとサシェ」

This post is part of a series to introduce my original zakka patterns in detail. Today's pattern under spotlight is Pyramid Zipper Pouch and Sachet. 

Because there is a limit on the number of photos and descriptions that I can post on my etsy shop listing, I'd like to provide you with more information about my individual patterns on my blog posts.

今日は私のオンラインショップで販売中のオリジナル手作り雑貨パターンの紹介記事をお届けさせていただきます。今回は「三角ポーチとサシェ」についてご紹介させていただきますね。

The pattern is available in my etsy shop.  It comes in a PDF format which includes step-by-step instructions with easy to follow diagrams. Once purchased, the pattern can be downloaded over and over from your account. 

If you are interested in carrying my *printed* pattern in your shop for retail purposes, they are available through Seven Islands, Inc., a major wholesaler of imported Japanese fabrics located in Torrance, CA.

ご覧の通りパターンはすべて英語ですがイラスト入りでわかりやすくご説明しています。一度オンラインショップでパターンを購入していただくと、ご自身のアカウントから何度でもPDF形式のパターンをダウンロードしていただけます。

または、ショップオーナーの方で販売用にプリント済みのパターンをお求めの場合は、直接　Seven Islands Inc. さん（日本からの輸入生地専門卸業者）から卸売価格で購入していただけます。

This is a compact sized pouch (4 1/2" in height), which means you only need a few scraps of fabric and a zipper to make it (4" zipper is used).　The pouch is fully lined.

手のひらサイズの小さなポーチなのでハギレとファスナー（約１０cm）で作れます。ポーチには内布もしっかりついています。

The above Pyramid pouches are made from floral print, gingham print, and linen. 

こちらの三角ポーチは、花柄、ギンガムチェック、リネンの組合せで作ってみました。

You know, I like to add small embellishments to my handmade pouches... For this pouch, I've stitched  a folded ribbon trim to the pouch front.

小さなリボンのハギレを二つ折りにしたものをポーチ正面に縫い付けます。

 

Here, the binding is stitched on to the pouch's front.

パイピング中。

And a small zipper ball adds that special *zakka* touch...

残ったハギレで小さな「飾り玉」を作って・・・

Small zipper ball is hand stitched to the zipper pull.

こんなふうにファスナーのスライダー部分に縫い付けます。手作り雑貨感がでますね♪

This project makes a perfect last minute gift... 

Or you can make it for yourself and store secret candies inside like I do! lol

プレゼントにもぴったりのポーチですが、自分用に作って飴ちゃん入れにしてもいいかもしれません。私は娘達に内緒のキャンディーをいつもここに隠しています。笑。

The pattern includes instructions to make these mini pyramid sachets using remnant fabrics and a handful of dried lavender.

パターンには、こんなミニ三角サシェの作り方も掲載しています。乾燥ラベンダーの香りに癒されます～。
