More Patchwork *Gamaguchi* Wallets and Giveaway Winner Announced♥

I made two more patchwork *gamaguchi* wallets or metal frame coin purses for my girlfriends. I totally forgot to take pics of two wallets together in one photo, but let me show you some of the images I stored on my iphone while I made these small handmades...

You may recall a similar wallet that I made earlier on this post 😊

The metal frame is from our local 100 yen shop or Japanese dollar store. As you may already know, I'm a frequent shopper of 100 yen shop! lol

I packed up these handmade wallets, a couple of Japanese snacks, handmade floral cards, and more stuff then shipped them off to my girlfriends in the U.S. Hope they liked them!!

Making Patchwork *Gamaguchi* Wallet or Metal Frame Coin Purse ♥

Here's my recent handmade item: patchwork gamaguchi wallet or metal frame coin purse I whipped up for a good friend of mine for her birthday.

My girlfriend and I met while working at a same restaurant when we were still teenagers (which is long long time ago as you can imagine!) We had been close since then despite living in the other side of the globe - U.S. and Japan. Now that I moved back to Japan, my girlfriend and I are reunited again.

The cross-stitched initial "E" in the center of the front panel is my friend's initial. I love adding personal touch to handmade gifts!

Interior of purse is turquoise blue.

Back side

Do you recall these handmade cards I made using my hand carved stamps recently?

The handmade card goes well with the gamaguchi coin purse when packed together.

Wrapped in a clear bag with a tied red ribbon 💕 The gift is complete!

To celebrate her birthday, I invited my friend over to our tiny apartment with my home cooked meal.

Chat. Eat. Drink. Repeat. Well basically that's all we did that afternoon at our kitchen table for seven hours straight - which was just great! You know, time just flies when you're with a good friend. There's just so much to catch up!

Wishing you enjoy your August with your family and friends❣

My Handcarved Eraser Stamps and More Makes❣

As I was tidying up my craft space today, I laid out all my handcarved eraser stamps on my desk and this is how much I've carved so far! I haven't had a chance to carve eraser stamps lately, but I sure miss making these tiny stuff...

Using few of my eraser stamps, I decorated some cards.

As much as I enjoy sewing, quilting, crocheting, knitting, and embroidering, eraser stamping is another favorite craft of mine that I truly enjoy ;-)

And here are a couple of other makes that I recently posted on my Facebook and Instagram.  These may look familiar to you if you've been following me on FB and IG!

Fabric stamps love! I made these fabric stamps from my book. These are so addicting to make! I highly recommend to make some of these if you've got bunch of fabric scraps like me♥♥♥

Then I made clip purses using purse frames I got from a local 100 yen shop (dollar store).

One day,  I was surprised when my hubby asked me to make a simple sleeve for his second smart phone, prior to his business trip. (He almost never ask me to sew anything for him!) Unlike our girls, it was super easy to sew for my hubby because he is not at all picky about fabrics! (lol) ‪

I used fleece for the interior to protect the phone.

Well that's it for tonight... Hope you all have a creative week!

Sewing Patchwork Kimono Bags (and a quick tutorial on crazy patchwork) ♡

Using kimono fabrics, I stitched up patchwork purse for my hubby's elderly aunt who is in her late eighties. She lives in a residential care home in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Here are the Japanese kimono fabrics/scraps I used to create this project. These kimono fabrics were received from my mom and my mom-in-law over the years.

Let me quickly show you how I stitched up the bag exterior panels using crazy quilting method.

First cut out pentagon piece based on hard paper template (I used empty Hershey's ice cream box left on our kitchen floor to create this template. lol) Place pentagon piece slightly above the center of 10 1/2" square cotton batting.

With right side facing down, align one strip of kimono strip onto one edge of pentagon. (I used 1 1/2 inch width strips for the first round but you can use strip of preferred width). Stitch at 1/4" seam allowance.

Flip the strip over to the opposite side, so that the right side faces up. Press lightly.

Continue to add 1 1/2" width strips in clockwise (or counter clockwise, whichever you prefer) around the center pentagon in the same manner until all edges are covered with strips.

Keep on adding strips to the second round. I used 2" width strips for the second round.

For the third and fourth round, I added strips of different width (bigger pieces). Continue until the batting is completely covered with fabrics. Square up the block to 10" square.

Here's the pink/navy version.

After finishing one zipper purse using the kimono patchwork block, I decided to make another one for the good friend of our aunty (total of two purses).

Back side of the kimono patchwork bags.

From the moment I decided to stitch a purse gift for our aunty, cross-body purse was in my mind. I think cross-body is the most practical, safe, and convenient type of purse for the elderly woman, or for any of us! I used ready-made store-bought straps for these purses.

After making two kimono purses, one for our aunty and another for her good friend, I decided to make one more purse for another good friend of our aunty (total of three purses)!

This purse is made for the kind Hawaiian lady who takes our aunty and her friend out for lunch on a regular basis. As you can see, I made this one bigger than the other two purses, to experiment with the size and style.

Back side of the bigger purse.

Three kimono patchwork purses finished! Phew!

Yes it was quite a work to stitch three purses in a short period of time... but I had so much fun! My only wish is that the new owners make good use of these new purses! We'll see... Mahalo! (Or thank you in Hawaiian🌸)

Scrappy Star Bento Bag for My Friend ☆

You may recall those quilt-as-you-go scrappy star panels I was stitching earlier this month. Well, I made those panels into a bento bag (lunch tote) for a very good friend of mine who is currently recovering from health issues.

As you can see, I chose cheerful and bright colors (mainly using Kokka's Irome collection) to lift her spirits up!

友人が一日も早く元気になってくれるようにと願いつつ明るい色の組合せを選んでみましたが派手すぎたかな~^^;

I first machine-quilted these scrappy star panels then turned them into a bento bag (lunch tote).

The scrappy star block is from my original Scrappy Star Square Bag pattern, now available at my etsy shop.

Free Japanese tutorial to make these bags are also available at Kokka fabric's website.

Free patterns available at Kokka-online site:

Scrappy Star Square Bag (キラキラ星のキルトバッグ)→☆

Stella Dome Pouch (5

And the bento bag pattern is from my book, Zakka Handmades...

This lunch tote is a good size to store lunch, fruits, snacks, and a small drink inside to go out on a picnic on a beautiful day!

Besides the bag handles, I added detachable long straps to the bento bag so that it can be worn cross-body like this.

The bag was shipped out to my girlfriend with some candies and other goodies inside. I can't wish enough that my girlfriend recovers fully and quickly!!

Edited to Add (追記)

Look! My scrappy star bento bag flew in to Grand Canyon, AZ, with the new owner all the way from Southern Cal, originally made by me in Tokyo!! So happy my friend is actually using my handmade bag and more than anything that she is recovering well! Yay♡
