I'm so happy to be part of the Sew Illustrated blog tour today! 

Sew Illustrated: 35 Charming Fabric & Thread Designs: 16 Zakka Projects is a book packed with sweetly designed projects and useful techniques and tips, written by Minki Kim and Kristin Esser. I had been a huge admirer of the beautifully stitched sewing illustration projects by the ladies, so it's so exciting to be part of their blog tour today.

From this book you will learn the methods of free motion stitching and machine applique techniques to create beautiful projects or to embellish your original handmade projects and gifts 💕 Once you get the hang of "sewing illustration" methods, design possibilities are endless - e.g. , sewing your children's drawings, stamped images, or even a traced photo to zakka items - will add special touch to your handmade projects and gifts.

本では、主にミシンステッチを使ったフリーモーション刺しゅうやアップリケの技法をふんだんに取り入れた作品を紹介されています。作品はどれも本当に可愛いくて見ているだけで楽しいのです❣　全編英語ですが写真も多く、とてもわかりやすく技法を説明されています。本で紹介されている技法をもとにオリジナル作品を作るのもいいですね。

So here's what I chose to make from the book - House Zipper Pouch❣ In the book, Minki stitched her daughter's name above the door (as you can see from the front cover of the book), but I skipped that process and instead added a small door knob (a light blue button) to embellish the exterior panel.

今回私が作ったのはこちら↑　おうちのポーチです。本の掲載作品ではポーチのドア上部分に著者Minkiさんのお嬢さんのお名前をフリーモーションステッチされていますが（表紙作品参照）私はその代わりにドアノブ用に水色のボタンを縫い付けてみました。

The book comes with clear step-by-step instructions with lots of beautiful photos and diagrams to follow.  It was especially fun to fussy cut the little girl, a dog, and birds from scraps to create windows and to attach them with fusible web!

ポーチ作りで一番楽しかった過程がこちら。　おうちの窓部分に使う女の子、わんちゃん、鳥さんなどを手持ちのハギレ布から切り取ってアイロン両面接着シートで指定の位置に接着しました。その後ミシンでアップリケしました。

Installing zipper was a snap❣

ファスナーもミシンで縫い付けるので作業は一気に進みます～

Although it wasn't indicated on the book, I decided to add straps to the "roof" of the house.  If you decide to add straps to the pouch as I did, I highly recommend that you stitch them before installing the zipper. (I added straps after installing the zipper). 

本の作り方では指定されていませんでしたが、今回私はおうちポーチに持ち手を2本付けてみました。今回は急に思い立ってファスナー付けをした後に持ち手を付けたのですが、次回からはファスナー前に持ち手を付けるようにしたいと思います。

For interior I used solid yellow - so happy and bright!

内布には明るいイエローを使いました。

I love how my house pouch turned out. 

Every time I peek through each window it makes me smile ^^

Welcome to my stop of A Spoonful of Sugar Book Tour! I have been following Lisa Cox and her daughter Sarah's inspiring blog, A Spoonful of Sugar for a long time, so to be part of Lisa's blog tour of her new book is a great pleasure and honor for me♥

Lisa さんが出版された著書 A Spoonful of Sugar には手作り雑貨20点が掲載されています。プレゼントにも最適な作品ばかりです。

So here's what I made from her book - Zakka Dilly Bags.  These are drawstring bags with a crocheted base. 

今回私もLisaさんの著書掲載作品より　Zakka Dilly Bags（雑貨ふう巾着バッグ）を作ってみました。

The book calls for 6 1/4" or 15.9 cm diameter crocheted bottom base for the bags, but I adjusted the crocheted rounds to 3 1/2" and 4", to fit the water bottles snugly.

本の作り方によると、かぎ針編みで編んだ直径約16㎝大の円をバッグ底に使っていますが今回私は少しサイズを縮小してみました。市販のペットボトルのサイズに合わせて、かぎ針編みの円をそれぞれ直径 8.75㎝ と 10㎝ 大に編み、バッグ本体と縫い合わせてみました。

Lisa indicates using scrap of white felts and leather patch for the fabric labels, which I would have loved to use, but didn't have on hand. Instead I made the patches with coordinating fabric scraps.

バッグ本体には白フェルトや小さなレザー（皮）とハギレを組合せてタグを作っていますが、残念ながら手持ちに白フェルトもレザーの端きれもなかったので、ご覧の通り布のはぎれのみでタグを作ってみました。

The bags are perfect for me to carry water bottles wherever I go!

普段使いのペットボトルにピッタリのサイズに出来上がりました。

Of course, these bags are great to carry some yarns and a crochet hook, or generous in size to carry cookies and candies for your family and friends.

もちろん、バッグには飲料水やお茶のペットボトル以外にも、毛糸とかぎ針や、お菓子を入れて持ち歩いてもいいですね♥

❤︎Flower crochet potholder ❤︎ かぎ針編みでお花のポットマット❤︎

Every once in a while I have a strong urge to put all chores aside, pick up my hook and start crocheting... Ideally I prefer quick projects that can be finished in a couple of hours.

やることがたくさんある時に限って無性にかぎ針編みがしたくなる時はありませんか？私にはあります！そんなときは数時間で完成する簡単なものを作るのが一番ですね♪

So one night I picked up a crochet hook and a few skein of yarns from my yarn stash (cheap acrylic yarns from local Yuzawaya) and madly began crocheting... 

というわけで今週のある晩、思い立って手持ちのチープなアクリル毛糸を出してきて（ユザワヤさんで購入したもの）編み編みしてました。

... and finished a flower potholder♥

完成したのはこちらのお花のポットマット。

For pattern, I lightly followed this Japanese craft book.

こちらの手芸本の作品を少し変更しつつ仕上げました。

Crocheting (or knitting) is a proven stress reliever and I totally agree. The best part is the sense of accomplishment I get from finishing one tiny project like this one. It's especially therapeutic when you're raising teenagers in your house. lol 

編み物は科学的にも実証されたストレス発散法らしいですが私自身、身をもって実感です。こんなに小さな作品をひとつ完成させるだけで達成感が得られるし、気分もうきうきと楽しくなれるんですよね♪　反抗期のお子さんをもつ親御さんには特にお勧めです（笑）

Now I use this potholder to drink green tea (I drink at least three to four cups of green tea throughout the day).

出来上がったポットマットは毎日のティータイム（緑茶）に早速使っています。

...Of course with my fave Moomin mug cup!

お気に入りのムーミンマグと一緒に。

Stitching crochet stars☆彡かぎ針編みで星のモチーフ

I couldn't sew a single thing this week (*sighs*)... but I managed to stitch a few crochet stars!

近頃はやることいっぱいでとても忙しく、今週はまったくソーイングができませんでした（涙）。でも小さな編みもの、少しできました。

As always, I stitch in my parked car while I wait for our girls' after school activities and such...

例によって、編みものは我が家の娘たちの学校や塾待ちの時間を利用して車の中であみあみしています。

Today, I'd like to introduce you to a talented Japanese artist and illustrator, Mr. Shuji Nishimura, who is based here in Southern California. 

さて今日はここ南カリフォルニアで活躍されている日本人アーティストの西村秀二さんの作品を皆さんにご紹介させていただきたいと思います。西村さんはイラストレーターとして、最近出版されたこの本の表紙イラストを担当されました。→★

It's exciting for me to see such impressive work of my fellow Japanese artists!

西村さんはほかにも、チョークアーティストとして様々なコンテストで優勝されています。上の作品「Beatles」も 2014パサデナチョークフェスティバルで見事最優秀作品に選ばれた作品です。チョークで描かれたとは思えない見事な作品ですね。

私も同じ日本人として、ここアメリカの地で活動されている日本人アーティストの方の活躍ぶりを知るのは大変励みになるしうれしいことです。^^

Making simple crocheted necklace with beads and embroidery floss☆ パールビーズと刺繍糸でかぎ針編みのネックレス☆

I made a simple crocheted necklace using faux pearls and gray embroidery floss (I used pearl cotton).

夏の終わりに作ったもの・・・。グレーの刺繍糸とパールビーズでシンプルなかぎ針編みネックレスを編みました。

Necklace can be worn two-tiered or three-tiered, whichever I prefer.

ネックレスは２連、または３連で使える長さです。

I basically followed instructions from this lovely crochet book from Japan.

To make this necklace, all faux pearls (or pearl beads) are threaded through the embroidery floss before being crocheted.  Tip: Adding a dab of craft glue to one end of the floss and drying it completely will make the threading easier.

このネックレス、まずはすべてのパールビーズを糸に通すことから始めます。 刺繍糸の先に少量のクラフト用ボンドを付け、完全に乾かしてからビーズを通すと簡単です。

First row is entirely chain stitches (foundation row). Then, second row is made up entirely of slip stitches, but by adding beads at desired intervals.

鎖編みで長～い作り目を編んでから、ビーズを編み込みながら引き抜き編みでネックレスを仕上げていきます。

Once all beads are threaded, crocheting part goes fairly quick.  It only takes some beads, embroidery floss (or crochet threads) and a crochet hook to make this simple beaded necklace.  I'd definitely like to make more of these effortless charm in the near future!  

いったん、ビーズさえ通してしまえばあとは時間を見つけて少しずつ編めば完成です。編み物はどこへでも持ち運びできるのが嬉しいですね^^  難しいテクニックなしに仕上がるのでこれからももっと作ってみたいです♪

Speaking of handmade necklaces... Here are the fabric necklaces that I made for my mom and my younger sis in early summer. 

ハンドメイドのネックレスといえば。。。夏の初めにこんな布製ネックレスを作って母と妹にプレゼントしましたよ。

As you may recall, I've made a couple of these lightweight fabric necklaces in the past for myself and for my friends, such as this one I made for myself... 

以前、当ブログでもご紹介させていただきましたが、この布製ネックレスはウッドビーズと手持ちの布で作っています。自分用に作ったものはこちら(上の写真です)。→☆

 And these I made for my girlfriends!

その後、友人へのプレゼントに一気に3つ作ったこともありました。→☆

Here, the fabric necklace is worn by my younger sis #1. 

上の写真は妹にプレゼントしたものです。(写真に写っているのも妹です♪)

 I don't own expensive necklaces..., but for me, these *inexpensive* handmade necklaces are as amusing and delightful to wear everyday!

私にとっては高価なネックレスをするよりも、シンプルな手作りアクセサリーを日常使いするほうが似合っているのかもしれません。というより、高価なネックレスは持っていないからしたくても出来ないというのが本音かも～！ (苦笑)
