Crochet Flower Chair Pad Finished! お花の円座

 

 

This week, I finished making this crochet flower chair pad while I waited for my girl's dance lessons.　

 

次女のダンス教室待機中にお花の円座（手編み座布団）を完成させました。

 

 

 

Remember this image from my last post? Now you know that I was crocheting a flower chair pad :)

 

この写真は前回のブログ記事でご紹介したものです。あの時点では何を編んでいるのかお伝えしていませんでしたが、実は円座を編んでいました＾＾

 

 

 

To make this chair pad, I first crocheted two exactly same oversized doilies in different colors.





 

この円座は2枚の編み地を重ねて作ります。まずは毛糸の色をかえて2枚の編み地を編みました。

 



 

Then the two large doilies are layered right side out and joined together using slipstitch, single stitch and chains.

 

編みあがった編地を外表に合わせて、2枚一緒に、目を拾いながら引抜き編みと縁編みで編みつなぎます。

Hook (編み針）: J or 6.0 mm

Finished size: 14 1/2" or approximately 37 cm diameter

 

出来上がりサイズは直径約３７センチ。

Here's the side view. Because of the layered structure, the chair pad is thick and comfy to sit on.

 

側面です。この円座は太めの毛糸で編んだお花を二枚重ねているので厚みがあり、座り心地も良いです。

 

 

 

To warm our butts during the cold season (lol), I like to crochet seat cushions for our kitchen chairs.  These are the seat cushions I made earlier this year for our family.

 

これからの時期、冷えたお尻を暖めるために（笑）、毛糸の円座は大活躍です。これは今年の初めに家族のために編んだキッチンテーブルの椅子用円座3枚です。

 

 

 

These seat pads were made using *crochet star* stitches. Blogged here. I really enjoy trying out different stitches and patterns when I crochet. I have a long list of patterns and stitches that I would like to crochet, and I try to use any small time slots that I can find during the day ;) 

 

But my problem is that besides the long crocheting list, I also have a long list of things that I'd like to sew, patchwork, and quilt... while I juggle time over work, family, and kids. Oh, and of course I can't skip the blogging time! Just like many of you, for me, time management is the key to success in crafting! You should see how (less) often I vacuum our house since I began crafting! lol

 

 

写真の円座は*スタークロッシェ*という星のような仕上がりの編み目で編みました。　この写真は過去記事より。　私にとって、新しい編み図や編み目に挑戦するのは編み物をする上での醍醐味です＾＾　

 

もっといろいろと編んでみたい編み図や編み目が山のようにあるので、今後も隙間時間を見つけてはコツコツ編みたいです♪　ただ、編み物以外にも、ソーイングやパッチワーク方面でも作りたいものが山のようにあり、家事、仕事、育児と手芸の両立が一番の課題です。　もちろんブログアップの時間も大切ですし（笑）。　子育て中や、お仕事をされている方で、手芸をされる方は皆さん同じだと思いますが、私も手芸をするようになって常に時間管理を意識するようになりました。手芸をする時間確保のために私がどれほど家事の手抜きをしているか...(苦笑）。

 

 

Anyways, the finished crocheted flower seat pad is so pretty and comfy that I'd like to make more for this winter.　

 

仕上がったお花の円座は可愛くて使い心地も良いので、寒くなる前にもっと編みたいです。

Matryoshka Round Bottom Bag マトリョーシカの丸底バッグ

 

 

 

Here is my latest bag addition. It is a round bottom bag made with Japanese imported heavy weight cotton with Matryoshka prints. The bag can be used as reversible with the reverse side made with medium weight linen.

 

丸底バッグを作りました。　大好きなマトリョーシカ生地を使ってみました。　内布にはリネンを使用。　リバーシブルとしても使えます。

 

 

The diameter of the round bag bottom measures approximately 6 1/2" or 16.5 cm.

 

バッグ底の直径は約１６．５cm。

 

 

I decorated the bag with a handmade fabric flower corsage.  Do you remember where this corsage came from...?

 

バッグのアクセントにハンドメイドのコサージュをつけてみました。　このコサージュ、見覚えありませんか？

リネンやリボン、そしてウッドビーズで作ったコサージュです。

 

 

Yes! I took the corsage from our front door wreath that I made recently and accessorized my bag :D

 

 このコサージュ、もともとは我が家の玄関に飾ったリネンのリース用飾りでしたが今回、ちょっと拝借しました。　笑。

 

 

I like to use this bag as a crocheting (or knitting) project bag, because it fits few skeins of yarns, knitting needles or crochet hooks, and other accessories perfectly inside. The one strap structure makes it very handy to slip the bag strap through one arm and continue stitching while I go. It's really convenient for someone who likes to crochet/knit while walking around the house (me!) lol.

 

バッグは毛糸玉数個と、編み棒や編み針などの小物を入れるのにピッタリなサイズです。　持ち手が一本なので、こうして片手に持ち手を通して歩いたまま編み物をするには最適です。（実際、私は家の中をぐるぐる歩きまわりながら編み物することがよくあります。笑）。

Linen wreath at our front door リネンのリース

 

 We have a new handmade wreath at our front door. 

 

我が家の玄関に新しいリースを飾りました。

 

 

 

I made this one by wrapping the linen strips and lace trims around the wreath.

 

リネンを細くカットしてテープを作り、リースに巻きつけてみました。　レースも少し足してみました。





 



 

 To prettify the wreath, I made this flower corsage with  linen strips and trims with wood bead stitched in the middle.

 

リネンとレースだけでは物足りなかったので、こんなコサージュもハンドメイドしてみました。　リネンやレースのハギレとウッドビーズで作ってみました。

 

 

Actually, before I placed this linen wreath, we had this spring-ish floral wreath hanging at our front door since this Easter... for over six months!  Well at least I removed the bunny in the middle after Easter (lol)!

 

実は・・・今年のイースター（4月）から半年以上、我が家の玄関にはこちらの派手なお花のリースを飾っていました。　このリースはイースター用にハンドメイドしたもので真ん中にはイースターのウサギさんもいたんですよ。（さすがにウサギは取り外しましたが・・・）。

I like the shabby look of this linen wreath. But I'm thinking... Do you think this wreath looks too summer-y to use in the month of September??  Well, maybe!

 

But I suppose it's okay, because we're still experiencing steamy autumn weather here in Southern California with temperature raising as high as 90F this weekend...

ナチュラルなリネンリースを玄関に飾ると良い感じです。ただ・・・このリースは9月に飾るには夏のイメージすぎるかしら？ということだけが心配です。

 

とはいえ、9月といってもまだまだ南カリフォルニアでは残暑が続いていて今週末も30℃以上まで気温が上昇するそうなのでまあこれも良しとします。笑。

Girly water bottle holder gift 女の子用水筒カバー

 

 

 

Hello everyone!  Hope all is well for you.

 I had been quite busy balancing my work, family, and everything else in between, and I missed blogging here lately...

But I'm so happy to be back today :)

 

 皆さんお久しぶりです。　こんにちは。　仕事に家事に育児に・・・毎日慌しくてなかなかブログ更新もままなりませんが、今日は久しぶりに更新できて嬉しいです：）

 

 

Over the weekend, I made a last minute  handmade birthday gift to my ten year old girl's friend. As always, my daughter selected the fabrics for her friend and I quickly stitched a water bottle holder for the birthday girl who just turned ten.

 

The water bottle holder is made to fit the pink water bottle that we got from our local Target store.

 

週末に、次女のお友達の誕生日ギフト用に水筒カバーを作りました。　例によって、生地は娘が選びました。　ピンクの水筒は近所のターゲットにて購入。　カバーはこの水筒にぴったりフィットするように作りました。

 

 



 

The pattern of this water bottle holder is my original. The holder has a boxy bottom, which is so much easier to sew than the round bottom.

 

水筒カバー底は四角形なのでミシンで縫うのもラクラクです。

 

 

And the opening closes with drawstring.  When I stitch up water bottle holders for kids, I like to use dark color prints for the strap and the bottom, because I know how (roughly) kids handle their lunch boxes and bottle holders at school (especially our girls!)

 

水筒カバー口は巾着型に。　子供用に水筒カバーを作るとき、私は持ち手とカバー底には必ず濃い目の色を持ってくるようにしています。ランチバッグにしてもそうですが、子供たちの扱いはかなり荒いですから。
（特に我が家の娘たちの場合は。苦笑。）

 



 

 

Simple gift wrapping by my daughter.  She also made a handmade birthday card using my hand carved eraser stamp collection. To tell you the truth, the card turned out pretty messy with ink all over... But it's made with my daughter's TLC so hope the recipient didn't mind ;)

　

 

ラッピングは娘が担当しました。　カードも、次女が私が彫ったけしごむはんこの数々を使って手作りしました。　あちこちインクで汚れて大変なカードになってしまいましたが・・・次女の真心がこもった（？）カードとなりました。

 

When I whipped up the water bottle holder for the birthday girl, I decided to make another water bottle holder for my twelve year old girl altogether.  My older girl has been asking me to make her a new water bottle holder using her favorite fabric (the Rilakkuma bear fabric) for a long time and I couldn't delay any longer...

 

今回、次女のお友達の誕生日ギフト用に水筒カバーを作ったついでに、長女にもリラックマ生地で水筒カバーを作りました。　以前から長女からはリラックマの水筒カバーの依頼を受けていたのですが、忙しくてつい延ばし延ばしになってしまい、もうこれ以上延ばす訳にもいかなかったため・・・。

 



 

This one was sewn without the handles (per request of my daughter).

 

こちらの水筒カバーは長女の希望で持ち手なしで作ったので簡単でした。

　

 

The birthday girl seem to like my handmade gift, which made me smile :) And my older girl is happy with her new Rilakkuma water bottle holder, but guess what? I need to whip up another one for my ten year old daughter soon! When I make something for one of my girls, I have to make another one for the other girl. Talk about sibling rivalry around here. Phew!

 

お誕生日ギフトに差し上げた水筒カバーもお友達に喜んでもらえた様子で良かったです。長女から頼まれていたリラックマの水筒カバーもやっと作ってやることができてやれやれです。　

…と、思いきや、実はまだ次女にも水筒カバーを作らないといけないので安心してもいられないのです。　トホホ。

Sewing for the Orphans ベトナムの孤児のために

 

 

 

 Here are the zipper pouches that I had sewn recently for the orphans of Vietnam. 

 

ベトナムの孤児のためにファスナーポーチをたくさん縫いました。

 

 

 

 

  Teresa Coates from Crinkle Dreams is heading up a charity sewing drive to get quality handmade items to be delivered to more than 100 orphan children living in Tam Ky Orphanage of Vietnam.  Teresa and her two children have spent time at this orphanage and have volunteered to help the children in need.

 

As a continued support to help the children of Tam Ky orphanage, she is currently asking for handmade shorts, dresses, messenger bags, pencil pouches and simple diapers, to donate to the needy children. Her deadline to receive handmade items is September 30, 2012. For more information, visit here.  For monetary donation, visit here.

 

 テレサさんというオレゴン州在住の女性がベトナムのTam Ky孤児院で暮らす100人以上の孤児に寄贈するための手作り衣類（半ズボン、女の子用ワンピース、乳児用オムツ）や雑貨（メッセンジャーバッグ、ペンケース）を募集しています。　締切りは今月末（9月30日）とのこと。

 

テレサさんと二人のお子さんたちは、ベトナムの孤児院でボランティア活動を行っており、今回もその活動の一環で手作り作品を集めて、孤児に届ける計画をたてています。詳しくはこちらまで。　募金活動についてはこちらまで。

 

 

 

When I first learned about this wonderful charity sewing project via the very talented sewist, elnorac's flickr, I immediately thought I wanted to participate.

 

私はつい最近この活動について、こちらのflickr（写真投稿サイト）を通して知りました。　そしてすぐに、自分も参加できれば・・・と思いました。

 

 

Some of these handmade zipper pouches were previously sewn for my etsy shop (temporarily closed at this moment), but the rest are the ones that I sewed up a storm this week for this charity. I tried to select colorful and cheerful fabrics from my stash, hoping to brighten up the faces of recipient children.

 

今回寄贈させていただいたのは、過去に私のオンラインショップ用に（現在はお休みしていますが）、作ったものも含まれていますが、それだけでは物足りなかったので今回新しく作ったものも加えました。　作品を作る際には、ベトナムの可愛い子供たちが喜んでくれそうな明るくて楽しい生地を選んでみました。

 

 

 

 

As a mother of young children, it's just too hard to even imagine the lives of the orphans living in the orphanage, without the loving family to take care of them at all times.  Are they fed enough?  Do they get proper education and training?  Do they have hope and dreams for the future?  Thinking about questions like these just breaks my heart, especially when I imagine about my own children living under the same circumstances.

 

私自身、２児の母として、ベトナムの孤児院で暮らす子供たちの様子を想像することは容易ではありません。　孤児たちに与えられる食料は足りているのか・・・。子供たちは学校には通わせてもらっているのか・・・。　将来に希望や夢は持っているのか・・・。

 

そして、そこで暮らしているのがもしも自分の子供たちだったら・・・と考えると、いてもたってもいられなくなります。

 

 

 

I know that my handmade donations does not help much (or not at all) to improve the living conditions of the orphans... I feel totally helpless, but at the same time, I just wish that my handmade creations bring smiles to the children. That was the only wish I had in my mind when I was sewing these pouches for the children.

 

私がこれらの手作り作品を寄贈したところで孤児院で暮らす子供たちの暮らしは何もよくならないでしょう。　自分が無力すぎて悲しくなりますが、そんな中でも、これらのペンケースを手に取ってくれた子供たちがたとえ一瞬でも笑顔になってくれるのであれば、私にとってはこんなに嬉しいことはありません。　

 



 



 As you can see, I've donated a total of twelve pencil pouches - six simple zipper pouches and six carrying pouches with handles.　Both are made from my original patterns.



 

ご覧の通り、今回は合計１２点の手作りペンケースを寄贈させていただきました。　そのうちの６点はシンプルなファスナーポーチで、残りの６点は持ち手付きのポーチです。　いずれも私のオリジナルの製図から作っています。

 

 



 

 

However, I had just one problem when creating these pencil pouches. As you can see from the images, almost all of these pouches that I created are made for the girls and there is only one pencil pouch made for a boy...

 

今回、手作りするにあたって一つだけ問題がありました。　というのも、既にお気づきかもしれませんが、１２点のうちの１点を除いてはすべて女の子向けのペンケースになってしまったということです・・・。

 

 

 

 

 ... which is this pouch made with this fun colorful blocks fabric. Well after all, I'm a mom of two girls and I don't own almost any fabrics for young boys... I just feel so bad for the boys at the orphanage... So sorry!

 

こちらが唯一の男の子向けペンケースです。　我が家には男の子がいないので、どうしても手持ちの布は女の子向けのものばかり。　孤児院の男の子たちには申し訳ない気持ちでいっぱいです・・・。

 

 

I wish I can sew more, but this is the best I can do right now with my current work schedule.

 

気持ちとしては、もっとたくさん作って寄贈したいところですが、今は仕事のスケジュール的に難しくてこれが精一杯なのが残念なところです。

 

Yet I'm feeling very thankful to Teresa for organizing such wonderful charity, and for giving me an opportunity to participate for a great cause.

Flex Frame Glasses Holder

 

Today is the first day of September and the summer is officially over...

 

But in our household, it's still summer time because our girls' school hasn't started yet, and I just can't wait to go back to school. Well, I mean for my kids to go back to school!  Don't get me wrong, I love my children, but you know, I think twelve weeks of summer is long enough for everyone!

 

 

今日から9月。　季節はもう秋・・・のはずですが、我が家ではいまだに夏真っ盛り。というのも、娘たちの新学期がまだ始まっていないからです。　１２週間の夏休みは母には長すぎます（涙）。

 

 

 

 

So here's something that one exhausted mom (me) made recently while her kids continue to enjoy their endless summer (lol). These are flex frame pouches made with 4" (10 cm) flex frame at the opening. I combined cheerful fabrics together and lined it with fleece batting throughout.   It's a perfect size to carry sunglasses, pens and pencils, crochet hooks, etc. inside.

 

娘たちが引き続き夏を満喫している中、疲れた母さん（私のことです。笑）はこんなの作ってました。　10センチ幅の縦長バネポーチです。　明るい生地を組み合わせてみました。　サングラスや筆記用具、かぎ針などを入れるのにちょうど良いサイズです。

This flex frame pouch is made with the Roses print from Heather Ross. I made it a while ago for my girlfriend's belated birthday gift.　

 

こちらのバネポーチはママ友達の誕生日プレゼント用に、

へザーロスというデザイナー生地で作りました。　

 

Tiny lace trim is sewn between the side seam...

 

小さなレースの端切れをポーチ脇にはさんで縫い付けてみました。

 



 

 

The gift was given to my girlfriend several months late from her birthday... sorry friend :( 

 

数ヶ月遅れの誕生日プレゼントとなってしまいましたが・・・受け取ったママ友達が喜んでくれたようだったのでよかったです。

Crocheting Cotton Doilies

Hello everyone!

Today I wanted to post about something bright and summer-y, because it's melting hot today here in the Los Angeles area where we live (over 90F or 32C)...  And because we don't have a/c in our house, I am literally melting...

私たちの暮らすロサンゼルス近郊の今日の最高気温は３２Ｃ。　我が家には冷房というものがないのでこんな日は暑さでバテ気味です。　今日は何か夏らしいものをご紹介できれば・・・と思いました。

　

Does these cotton doilies look summer-y to you?  Hope so!

I crocheted these using 100% cotton yarns (Sugar'n　Cream yarn from Lily) with my original pattern.

コットン毛糸でドイリーを編んでみました。　夏らしい作品に見えるかな？　毛糸はLily のSugar'n　Cream、編み図は自作です。

These cotton doilies will be used as coasters in our household. You may already know this, but we have a few pink fanatics in our house (yes, our girls) so everything I make for them has to have something *pink* in it.

このドイリーは我が家のコースターとして使う予定。　うちにはピンク大好きな娘たちがいるので、彼女たちが使うものにはだいたいどこかにピンクを入れる羽目になることが多いのです…。

My daughter selected this yarn a while ago at our local Joann. I think she liked the variegated pink color of this yarn, but until I began crocheting with this yarn, I had no idea that this was a *scented* yarn!

この毛糸は少し前に近所の手芸量販店  Joann にて購入しました。　娘が気に入って選びましたが編み始めてみてびっくり。　なんと*香りつき*毛糸でした。



 The scent is not strong. It rather smells like a gentle room fragrance. It's nice, but I  personally prefer yarns without any scents...

香りはさほど強くなく、ルームフレグランスのような香りです。　悪くはありませんが、個人的には毛糸に香りはいらないような気が・・・。



We drink lots of cold barley teas or mu-gi-cha （麦茶） in our house during summer. Here I placed a glass of cold barley tea on top of this cotton doily coaster.  As I write this, I am drinking this ice cold tea!

我が家では夏の間は麦茶をたくさんいただきます。　冷たい麦茶をグラスに注ぎ、編みコースターにのせてみました。　今もこのブログを書きながら冷たい麦茶をいただいています。
